At around 9 p.m. on Wednesday night, officers from the Anne Arundel County Police Department were called to the area of Solomons Island near Owensville Sudley Road in Harwood to investigate a reported head-on crash involving two Ford vehicles.

According to investigators, 32-year-old Edgewater resident Anthony Michael Filippelli was driving south on Solomons Island Road when his Ford Escape crossed over the center line, striking Stephen Lee Horodyski's Ford Fiesta.

Horodyski was killed in the crash, and his passenger, Gambrills resident Sara Louise Winter, 66, was rushed to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Filippelli suffered minor injuries.

It is unclear what caused Filippelli to lose control.
